Goals
The Youth Leadership and Life Planning (YLLP) program for junior-high-level students addresses key dimensions of leadership and life-planning. Session experiences are designed to enhance self-efficacy and a growth mindset while strengthening teamwork and leadership skills.
Our Personal Approach
Our year-long (once per week) YLLP program, offered as part of the Siena Youth Center’s (SYC) after-school program, strengthens leadership skills; explores the sources of power in our society; and has participants setting goals and designing action plans for the uncertain worlds they face. Through individual and group experiences students set personal, educational, and financial goals, they anticipate obstacles, and they draw upon critical/strategic thinking to plan ways forward.
Impact
YLLP is an outgrowth of necessity. Faced with the educational challenges of youth at SYC, a selective Junior High Leadership Team has been created to support the educational development of the younger 1st through 6th graders. YLLP is helping Team members build self-reliance and resilience in their own lives, and to enhance their effectiveness as peer role models and leaders for the younger students.
