Goals
Nature Club connects 1st to 5th graders with nature, food, and each other. Students explore the interdependencies of the health of individuals and of our planet. Hands-on experiential learning facilitates team building and strengthens their leadership skills.
Our Personal Approach
The 15-week Nature Club course in Siena Youth Center’s after-school program complements their classroom learning with the experiences of growing fresh produce in a dedicated Nature Club Garden, and then harvesting, cooking, and enjoying them with their peers. Participants study the cycles of life in nature and the impacts of climate change, food justice and connections of food to health, and the chemistry of cooking, all in a dynamic, fun, and experimental setting.
Impact
Nature Club deepens youths’ awareness of their surroundings, establishes healthy eating routines, builds confidence, and lets student experience the joys of experimentation and teamwork. Parents of participating students are encouraged to enroll in our Healthy Lifestyle Coaching Program for a true youth-to-adult experience.
